Brampton Flood 2014

It started raining in the afternoon, then thundering and hailing.

Then this happened.

It got quite bad. It was literally inches away from getting inside. We panicked a bit.

Luckily there's some amazing and helpful people in this village. We all got our brooms and with teamwork we pushed the water to the drains and away from the house. Everything (well, everything except our feet, shoes and clothes) was much drier in no time!

I thought they should have a swimming pool here, but I guess it's a little bit inconvenient to have one in the middle of the street. So we worked our hardest to get the water to the drains and now it looks pretty much normal.

I was soaked when I got back inside, but I don't know how much of it was rain water and how much of it was sweat... It's hard work! Rather ironically I had a bath straight after.

Apparently nothing like this has ever happened in this village. I'm just glad I wasn't alone when the water started rising. In the end sweeping the water with our brooms was actually kind of fun when our houses weren't anymore in danger.

Many thanks to everyone who helped.

Photo-pläjäys

Creative use of different languages in the title, enjoy.

Some photos of my surroundings. So that you guys know what it looks like here.

Today was an ordinary day. I went jogging, killed approximately 20 592 spiders, sent a parcel home (but ssh don't tell them, it's supposed to be a surprise), walked a lot, nothing special, very boring blog material. So I'm not going to write about it. Just photos.

Eloveena-selfie :P

Kuten monissa kansainvälisissä blogeissa tehdään, kuten Viivin blogissa tehdään (wohoo shoutout Viiville), vois lisätä tänne tän tämmösen suomenkielisen (jos tätä kehtaa siksi kutsua) tiivistelmähommelin. Et semmost. Juuh.

First Things Second

So many things to write about.

For once I'm not going to start about myself. I know, it's so unlike me (see? It took me two whole sentences). Instead, I'll tell you a bit about Brampton.

Locals

Brampton is a village with a population over 5000. It has all your everyday services and more in Huntingdon, which is like 5 kilometres to North East. If you still can't find what you're looking for, why not hop the bus to Cambridge or a train to London which both take about an hour each.
It is a beautiful place and if you don't believe me, I'll add photos of it somewhere on this blog some day. I promise. It looks like what you see in postcards and paintings. I've been here for a total of 38 days now and I've enjoyed every day.

Let me tell you something. Writing a blog post is not easy when you're simultaneously watching Malcolm in the Middle with a 9-year-old. Who remembers Malcolm in the Middle? That show was my childhood! Life is unfaiiiiir... I'm in a funny mood, can you tell?

Yes, the 9-year old. Her name is Sarah. I'm her au pair, which is French and means a servant/entertainer/pet I'm joking obviously
She's actually super nice and such an easy child. She enjoys watching films and tv shows and she likes horses, guess what, so do I! My hostmum, Jo, is such a nice person too. They're so friendly and overall a good family. Nah, 'good' is not a good enough word. They're all I could've asked for and better. I feel extremely lucky.

Introduction

Hellooooo I'm Vappu!

I'm 19 (but I'm 20 this October!!) and I was born in Kotka, Finland. I'm currently au pairing in Brampton, UK.

Things I like: chocolate, horses, football (youuuuuu R'ssssss), strawberries, food, music, films, talking about myself, the usual stuff.

Things I don't like: spiders! Funnily enough England seems to be full of them.

I'll write something better about myself in the future. An in-depth description of myself. Oh boy I can't wait!

This is me looking fat but it's just the jumper honestly healthy in front of the Hickstead derby bank.

Warning: I have a really bad and twisted sense of humour so sorry about that.

As so many (two) of my friends have been pestering me (asking very nicely once or twice) to start a blog, I finally gave in and here it is. Be warned: I might forget about it two days after I've written this post. Let's hope that won't be the case.

For those who don't know me, I'm Vappu (but you can call me [ˈvæ̩̩.pəː], everyone else here does) and I'm from Finland. I'm a self-proclaimed horse lover and chocolate enthusiast who is currently working as an au pair in Brampton. Brampton is a beautiful village near Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire in England in the UK which is in Eur... You got the point.

I'll be writing this blog in English as I'd expect that to widen my target audience significantly. But do not worry, my Finnish compatriots, thanks to our brilliant education system that has produced the 'great' language skills of this blogwriter, I trust you to understand my blog posts anyway. Unless they are utter nonsense as this paragraph is turning out to be. Moving on...

Anyway. I hope you enjoy my blog. Take nothing seriously. I'll try not to try so hard to be funny. Sorry about my English.
